Mary Lou Olds
Almost all of my artwork begins with a concept that I wish to communicate to the viewer. Every aspect of the work is chosen to share that idea, visually, emotionally, and intellectually.
Each piece employs a unique array of techniques and styles. The idea to be communicated with the viewer dictates materials, composition, colors and so much more about artwork.
As a life-long artist, I’ve worked in mixed media collage, fiber, printmaking, pastel, photography, and 3d figurative work. Each medium informs the other.
Openness to new ideas, collaboration, and extensive time in the studio has driven my artistic maturity.
My objective is to become more prolific, expressive and comfortable with a wide range of media.
In 2018 my artwork was juried into several art shows across the state of Michigan including: Our Earth
Our Home at Siena Heights University, Lenawee Council for the Visual Arts’ 2018 Croswell Juried Show,
and (re) purpose at South Haven Center for the Arts.
I’ve participated in Tecumseh Art Walk in 2017, 2018 and 2019. I was an invited demonstrating artist in
Artalicious Art Fair in 2017 and 2018.
My work hangs in the permanent collection of St Joseph Cancer Care Center and in private collections
across the country.
Mary Lou Olds' studio in the Carnegie Building in Tecumseh will be open for the tour.
